Im sure you all know my age more or less (Im 19) but Ive never really talked about what Im doing in terms of education, so heres a little summary/update: At the start of 2014 my mindset was that as much as I loved writing and playing music, I wasnt willing to take the risk of making a full-time career out of it. But at the same time, I had no idea what else I wanted to do, so after scoring really well in my last year of high school, I picked (almost at random) a difficult university course that tended to lead into high-paying jobs. Sooo i studied biomedicine for about a month, then came payment date, basically the last day for students to pay fees for the semester. Essentially out of nowhere, and with no clear objective, I decided, You know what, screw it, Im taking the year off. So obviously I ended up with a lot of free time, and unsurprisingly I spent most of it on music. Aside from original works and covers, there were a few classical pieces that Ive known and loved for years, but never dared to attempt, the types of pieces that Id watch people play and think I wish I could play like that but I just dont have time to practice 8-12 hours a day like they do! Well, without having to worry about studying for the first time in years, I figured that excuse was no longer valid, so I decided to give it a try! One of the pieces I started learning was Rachmaninoffs 3rd concerto, and this video that I posted a few weeks ago ( https://facebook/video.php?v=915063598506454 ) is an excerpt from the first movement. Fast forward to around October and it FINALLY hits me that Ive been practicing or working on music in some form for 8-12 hours almost every day for several months. And so for the first time after 13 freaking years of playing piano, I think to myself, Hey since you like this so much maybe you should try to make a career out of it. Long story short, I have applied to study classical performance in university and my audition is next Friday! (December 12th) This is the main reason why Ive been pretty quiet for the last few months. Even though I feel completely ready for the audition and Im DYING to start working on covers and originals again, this audition is potentially going to determine what I do for the next 3 years of my life, and thus the rational part of my brain compels me to focus solely on my audition pieces for this last week. So thats my little end-of-year recap, I may not have uploaded that many videos this year and the album may not be finished, but hey, I finally have some inkling of an idea of what I want to do with the rest of my life, so Id say 2014 has been pretty successful :) Moreover Ive made more progress as a pianist in the last 8 months than I have in the past several years, and I can promise that itll show in 2015. Some of my projects I have planned for immediately after the audition are: -Completing a half-written cover of a song that I guarantee ALL of you have heard -Releasing 3 original pieces as piano solos (piano+orchestra versions to follow) -Re-learning, revising and transcribing some old covers to perform live. And when I say live, I mean....anybody heard of StageIt? :D Thanks for reading and hope youre all doing well!
