Im teaching again, so Im instantly hit by the realities of so many of my students, especially the young men in Oakland. Im saddened by the abuse of power and the countless murders that occur everyday by police and any armed civilian who is not emotionally stable, socially aware, or experienced enough to confront the realities of our nation. Im disappointed by their misuse of the word justice, frustrated with my voiceless president who I voted for, and drained by the media. Oscar grant, Michael brown, Alex Nieto, trayvon Martin... And these are only the names that made headlines. My heart goes out to the unknown families who have lost someone, and the brave folks in Ferguson who are fighting the good fight. How about Equal opportunity, free education, proper healthcare and shrinking that income gap. We all just want food on our plate, a clean place to rest our head at night, and people who love us.
