Im very hurt…. We need to have a talk guys. I know a lot of you are younger than me and may not know yet what I’m about to say, but now you will. You know that song that got you through your bad breakup? Your favourite movie you watched with your parents? That album that just gets you, that you play on repeat? That famous movie The Notebook with Ryan Gosling? Remember when Fireflies by Owl City came out? That Tv show you love to watch every night? The people who made these shows and songs that touch your heart do not work other jobs. To make music, tv shows and movies is their job. They have to eat, buy clothes, support their families, pay for their kids to go to school. It costs over Ten Thousand dollars to make a professional album. Bands go into debt, owing the bank to make these albums. The bands of your favourite songs, your favourite actors and movie makers rely on fans to buy their music. If no one buys their album or movie, they starve. They do not live at home with a fridge full of food that mommy and daddy pay for. There will be no movies, no tv shows or music if people continue to steal it off the internet. Yes I said steal. It’s theft. To take illegally someone’s work is theft. Your shoes you own, they were paid for so that the person who made them can eat. You can’t go into a store and steal shoes. It’s the same thing as downloading online a song or album that a band went into debt to make. But Owl City is rich! Now he is, but he wouldn’t have gotten anywhere without fans buying his Cds and merch. You know Blink 182? Eminem? Owl City? These artists touched me heart as a teenager, but they were just starting off. They had no money when they started. I wanted them to succeed, I wanted them to come and tour so I could see them live, I wanted them to make another album. I was a young teen and had no money, but I wanted them to succeed. I would work jobs for my family to make money, split album costs with friends, borrow money from my friends, pay my older friends who had credit cards to order their albums for me. I found a way for make sure these young bands could keep making music that would touch my heart. Without me buying their albums and merchandise, along with other fans, they would not exist….. I’m currently where the bands were in the beginning; In debt with no money. I’m pouring my heart into music so I can touch your heart and bring positivity into your life. I’ve been very depressed many times. I’m doing my best to make sure you never have to go through that. … I’m Something Like Kites. I have spent thousands of hours writing each of you guys back privately on facebook messages about your break ups, about suicide attempts, about parental abuse, about anorexia, about getting picked on, about losing weight, about death. I’ve always made time to be there for you and have paid thousands of dollars to be their for you. Now I need your help. Comment below if you are there for me and believe in me too.
