Im very proud that I served my country, but to be honest I joined up to be able to play my cello and have a decent paying job. I dont equate myself with combat personnel, but we were on call to play 24/7, we were to be stretcher bearers in war time and there were antiquated attitudes to illnesses such as my depression. I was able to keep my playing up to a good standard(not everybody shared my enthusiasm in that regard) and artistically I fought the whole military culture tooth and nail. Any real musician would do that.
