Im very sad today. Our dog Wag died in my arms this morning as the vets assistant was feeding him treats, I was holding him while the vet gave him a sedative, petted him and finally gave him the shot that stopped his heart. One month from today, November 14th, he would have been 8 years old. He was too young to die. He was a special gift to my husband for Christmas in 2005. I had contacted a breeder and explained that I wanted a salt and pepper, male, schnauzer. The puppies were due to be born on November 17th. November 14th, I got a call from my mother in-law and had to go to my husbands office to tell him that his father died. An hour later I got a call from the breeder telling me that the puppies had just been born and that there was only one salt and pepper and it was a male. Christmas Eve day came and Justin and I drove over to the breeders, as we had arranged earlier. The breeder allowed us to take the puppy for a couple of hours to introduce him to his owner Wally, as his Christmas gift. Justin and I had taken a tiny Santa hat with us, put it on the puppy and took him to meet my husband. Wally chose to name him Wag because Wallys dads initials were WAG and Wag was born on the day that his dad died. The Rainbows Bridge Poem Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown...
