Im watching Jeopardy; suddenly: BREAKING NEWS, and the program is interrupted. What has just happened? Baghdad has fallen? Tel Aviv has been destroyed by Hammas? Putin has declared war on Eastern Europe? No. Robin Williams has (apparently) committed suicide. Have we NO sense of proportion in our country? He was very gifted, I love almost everything he did, and it is a very sad event indeed. But really.... would it not be entirely appropriate to announce this unsettling event without suggesting that it is something of international and earth-shaking importance? Sorry... it just isnt. An entertainer and comedian has taken his own life. Regretfully. And it is in now way disrespectful for me to say as much.
