Im watching Star Trek Next Gen at 3am. The character Data researches a planet and reports that The Librarys computer has no information on that planet. In that sentence it is implied that the the Library on the star ship set many centuries in the future is something other than a computer, or is comprised of something other than digital data. Its interesting to see how the concept of a library was imagined in the late 80s; to see the 1988 prediction of how much influence computers and digital data would have in how we organize knowledge. How far from the mark did their predictions fall?
