Im writing to see if anyone here has successfully dealt with separation anxiety. I adopted Ellie (2 years old) three weeks ago and she has adjusted well- she hasnt had any accidents in the house, shes fairly calm inside, does not beg, sleeps on her bed next to mine at night, etc. However, when I leave for work she whines and cries. The crying eventually leads to barking. I have tried quite a few things to no avail. I walk her each morning and when she comes back inside she sleeps while I get ready, leading me to believe she is not barking as a result of pent up energy. I also do not make a big deal about my comings and goings. I calmly say crate and she goes in willingly and I let her out of the crate without saying anything or petting her until she is calm again. She has her toys and a Kong filled with peanut butter that she gets only when she is in the crate. I even started covering the crate so that it would feel more like a den. When I came home, she had pulled the blankets off and partly into the crate. Additionally, I have left the tv on and a fan to muffle any outside noises. I live in an apartment that is very dog friendly, but I need to stop this now before it becomes a habit. She is not very vocal ordinarily, it is almost exclusively limited to when she is left at home. Any advice is very much appreciated! THANKS!
