Imagine being woken before 3am to be moved off shore... in the dead of night, so you and your children are frightened, powerless to call for support from outside, unable to say goodbye to friends or pack your bags properly. This is exactly what happens to refugees in the first place. This is the trauma, powerlessness, grief, uncertainty and threat that they are escaping. Detention is no place for children.
