Imagine having a hurricane on your babys first birthday and only - TopicsExpress

Imagine having a hurricane on your babys first birthday and only being able to celebrate while hunkered down in the hallway with PB&J sandwiches as branches are slamming into your house. Imagine ten years prior huddling in a different hallway as a little girl having no idea what a hurricane was and how serious it could be while listening to the screams of the winds outside. Ive seen and heard a lot of flack from people about how Hawaii and the media blew these storms completely out of proportion (laugh at my pun). The common denominator of all these people has been the same; they either dont live here or have never really experienced the effects and the aftermath of a hurricane. Sure, Oahu had it somewhat easy this time but before you talk smack, ask someone in Hilo or Puna how they fared. Ask someone whose home was damaged where theyre going to sleep tonight. Ask someone how theyre going to make ends meet if they cant get to work because their only means of transportation is damaged. Yes, some people panicked and went overboard, buying ridiculous amounts of water and other supplies. But most of us just worried about our families, not wanting to deal with something like Iniki or Iwa again. Have a little sensitivity.
