Imagine you wake up one day in the middle of the summer, you go make yourself a cup of tea before turning the laptop on - planning on spending the morning on tumblr and other such sites, more than likely fangirling and just having fun talking to people who lives miles away. As the laptop turns on though you hear a knock on the front door, youre the only one in still since you woke up late, so you grumble to yourself as you walk out of your room with your cup of tea in hand and an old jacket on to keep you warm. You dont look your best, but it’s the summer so who cares? As you leave your room, you cast one look at your wall that is completely covered in Harry Potter related items and smile - its years past your eleventh birthday so youve given up hope of getting a letter and it all being real, but you can still enjoy it a lot. There is another knock when youre nearly at the door, so you shout that youll be a minute before searching for the key that you always seem to lose and opening the door to reveal... a grey haired woman who appears to be wearing.. robes and a pointed hat. As you stare at the woman who looks a lot like a certain book character, you think to yourself this has got to be a joke, surely its just your best friend pulling a very late April fool’s joke. Since you do not say anything, the woman raises an eyebrow and pulls out a thick envelope that appears to be made of parchment. May I come in? she asks before stepping into the house. You nod slightly, a slight frown on your face - someone is going all out with this prank, but why in Merlins name did you just let the stranger into your house? You shrug it off and shut the door; you just get a strange feeling from this woman, like she can be trusted. As you silently hope to yourself that youre right about that feeling, you follow her through to your living room. My mums out, so if youre looking for her- she cuts you off. I can assure you that I am not here for your mother, Miss- she says your name and you just nod. This is for you. she adds as she hands you the envelope and then sits down on one of the chairs. You glance down at the envelope and shake your head. This is a joke, right? It isnt real, just a story. A brilliant story, but still...” Yes, I suppose you would believe that, wouldnt you? she raises an eyebrow again. I still cannot believe the Ministry went along with publishing those books and then those.. movies, is it? she looks at you and you nod, so she carries on talking. Someone assured them that the Muggles would believe it all to be fiction. I suppose it did bring in some money, which helped a lot with rebuilding- You cant stand it any longer, so you have to interrupt. Whoever this woman really is, shes a good actor - youll give her that one. Are you trying to tell me that it is real? Magic and all of that. And the battle of- She interrupts you this time. It is quite real. And I am sorry for how late your letter is... A lot of records for muggleborns got destroyed while Voldemort had power; his way of making sure muggleborns didnt make it to Hogwarts I assume. Prove it. You say quickly, youve put your cup of tea down now and you have your arms crossed. You know youre being rude, but you cant help it... You dont want to get your hopes up. She does not seem surprised by this though; instead she simply pulls out her wand (nine and a half inches, fir with dragon heartstring core, if you remember right) and points it at one of your mothers’ favourite ornaments. You break out into a grin, practically bouncing up and down with excitement when you see the ornament of a cat come to life. Its actually real! Hogwarts and- oh my god! I see you believe me now. she says as she puts her wand away again, a slight smile tugging at the corner of her lips. But that means-.. all the people who died. Realisation hits you and you stop bouncing. It was bad enough having them die on paper or on screen, but to know that there was really a George out there who was missing an ear and half of himself. To know that little Teddy really didnt have his parents. It was heart-breaking. Im afraid so. I find it best not to dwell on the bad though, something that I am sure would be best for you as well. You nod slightly and then look down at the envelope, wanting a distraction from the heartbreak. How does this work then? Im not exactly eleven anymore. We have the details figured out already, most of which can be found in that envelope. I have to warn you though; you will be required to work harder than normal. You nod your head quickly. I may slack off a bit at school normally but I can assure you that wont happen from now on! This is a dream come true! Im sure it is, now.. you will have to go to Diagon Alley at some point soon, you can- Change my money at Gringotts and the list of items I need is in the letter, I know. She looks at you slightly amused. One last thing then, the entrance to the train station.. we made sure the true location was not recorded in those books. I refused to make things difficult for my students, which from what I have heard of the Muggles.. it would be. That makes sense. “I will be going now then, I expect to see you on September first.” “Professor, one last thing?” you ask as she stands up again. She nods so you carry on with your question, “Did you really help Peeves out a couple of times while Umbridge was around?” She smiled that tiny smile again at that, but she didnt answer, instead she nods towards the envelope and then starts to walk towards the door. “You should read all of that and I am sure I do not need to remind you not to tell anyone about this. I’ll be seeing you.” --- Already posted on my other page :) I swear, it was only supposed to be a couple of sentences! ~The Red Dalek of Slytherpuff
