Immeasurable Faith “She had heard about Jesus, and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, she said, “If I but touch his clothes, I will be made well.” Immediately her hemorrhage stopped; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease…” Mark 5:27-29 (NRSV) We often read about the faith of persons in the Bible as if it were something unattainable by us today. But is it really? We serve a God whose power is unmatched by anything in this universe or beyond it. We are admonished that if we have faith, we are able to speak to the mountain, tell it to move and it will be removed. It doesn’t take ground-shaking or earth-breaking faith to accomplish such a feat. The bible tells us, it only takes faith the size of a mustard seed to do so. In many areas which are prone to experience earthquakes, the Richter magnitude scale is used to quantify the energy released by a quake. Seismic waves or under currents that travel through the Earth’s layers are measured by a seismometer to determine the power of the earthquake. Unlike earthquakes, our faith is not measured on a Richter scale. The size of faith that we need has already been quoted by Jesus on the Jesus-scale. Jesus told the disciples, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can speak and move mountains. Can you imagine the magnitude of the seismic faith waves possessed by this woman with the issue of blood? This woman was undoubtedly extremely weak due to a massive loss of blood over a period of twelve years. Yet, her faith was so powerful that even in a crowd Jesus felt her touch on his cloak (or in other versions) the fringe, (the end) of his robe.Whatever you are believing God to do in your life and the lives of your loved ones, remember your faith has already been measured on the Jesus-scale. Do not doubt it or try to guess its strength. Simply extend your faith and exercise it. Jesus is able to detect it no matter how faint it is or you may be. Because He has all power, He can and will act upon it. Prayer: Our heavenly Father, help us each day to place our faith in Your hands. Lord we know that You are always aware of our issues and circumstances. Father, help us to increase our trust in You that our faith may continually be strengthened. In Jesus name, Amen
