Important 2014 AWSC Notes on this years format was sent to all the teams and judges this morning. Please email me teamdiva@hotmail if you didnt received this email. Hi all, March 30, 2014 Votes are in! Summary above, explanations below. Summary of format decisions Here is what I can tell you to date about this years format and scoring. Still waiting on some decisions from our judging panel to share with you. synchro 70%, race 20%, bumps 10% no penalty on repeating figures Option 1 race score -Use the raw race times of accumulative time of the 4 team members. Lowest total time of 4 team members win. All 8 run times are used. One run on each course. For DNF and DSQ, there will be a time added to the total for that racers run. Still waiting for confirmation on that penalty time from judges. A fast course time is 16 seconds. It is proposed a DNF run would be 30 seconds and a DSQ run would be 35sec. Option 1 Race Format - individual times. 2 teams members ski each course once (change!!! after meeting with race crew and allowing us time on the course. Now all 4 teammates racing once in each course) Random Computer Draw for bib start numbers Total time of 4 team members added together for fastest time. Both runs 8 times Schedule: April 6th: gondola load 9am, inspection 9-930am, race start 9:45am Option 2 for bump format - both team members ski each course once, each skier is given a score independent of who they are matched against. random draw for start order and course side no speed points on bump run score, speed will be represented in dynamic skiing score bump start time will tentatively be set for 1pm, but may very well change based on weather and snow conditions. Still waiting on judges to come back with exact bump scoring criteria and point system, but expect them to reward good bump skiing as we know it as defined by the PSIA. I have not found the description for bump skiing on the RM site, but I found this on another divisions site Performance Bumps (Level 3) Advanced Zone/Level 3 Applied Skills Activity Description: Ski black and double black moguls while showing purposeful versatility of line, turn shape, and speed. Why this activity will be useful: The ability to ski fall line moguls on steep terrain opens doors to allow the skier access to any part of the mountain. This type of skiing requires both mental and physical mastery of skill blending. It requires athletic skiing and a playful interpretation terrain and line choice. How the Body Moves: (CAUSE) Flexion movements of the joints facilitate pressure control through absorption of the terrain Extension movements of the joints facilitate pressure control and maintain contact with the snow as the terrain drops away Rotational movements come from the femurs turning in the hip sockets under a stable pelvis and upper body and create upper/lower body separation The duration, intensity, rate and timing of the turning movements are varied to accommodate high speed and fall line bump skiing Tipping movements originate in the lower leg under a stable upper body The duration, intensity rate, and timing of the tipping movements are varied to accommodate high speed and fall line bump skiing The core maintains functional tension to preserve stability in the upper body What the skis do: (EFFECT) Skis maintain contact with snow when appropriate Skis bend to maintain contact with the snow when in the troughs Pivot point of the skis is under the foot Skis turn at similar time and rate to match terrain variations Skis tip and release simultaneously allowing the tips to move into the fall line Pole plant can be used as a timing device for turn initiation, and may aide in stabilizing the upper body Turn shape and line choice are used for speed control Explanation on format decisions Percentages of score for each sections.
