Imprinted on the minds of many are the images. Images of two buildings that beautified the New York City skyline and seemed impenetrable – monuments of America – left as a pile of smoldering rubble. Images of the command center for our military – the Pentagon – with walls so thick it seems like a fortress – pierced by a plane that left a gaping hole in its exterior. Images of a Pennsylvania field that has become a landmark because passengers on the plane wanted to protect the American people and died in that field. 12 years have passed, but the events that occurred seem like yesterday. Today, as a nation pauses to remember, how comforting the words of the Lord of the Nations: " The plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord... No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love." (Psalm 33:11,12, 16, 18)
