In 1 John 4:18 we are told that there is no fear in love; that when we have fear we are not made perfect in love. The verse prior speaks of being as Christ is in this world, so by nature of the context this must refer to not having fear in living a sanctified and holy, Christlike life. I personally should not be affraid of what persecution, whether physical or psychological, may come as a result of living this way. Perfect love casteth out fear. Verse 19 states - We love him because he first loved us. Again I am reminded that my love for him is perfected the more that I meditate on his love for me, and the result is an emboldened life in which his love conquers any and all fear and makes me more effective in bringing honor and glory to him as a servant and a witness.
