In 1910, George and Frona Gill moved from Lenoir City to Powell, TN, with their four oldest children, Grace, Norman, Floyd, and Cleo. They settled on what is now 1509 W Emory Road, constructing their home and opening Gill Lumber Company. With the lumber company came opportunity, employment, and an influx of people who built the foundation of Powell. From the springhouse to the lumberyard, Powell began to bustle with activity and vision. In 1911, George and Frona’s youngest daughter, Ruth, was born in the home that is now The Front Porch. Having met and married Kyle Matthew Herrell in 1934, they in turn raised their family in the home where she grew up. In 2013, the historic home was purchased, restored, and later sold to its current owners. It is our hope that you, too, appreciate the rich heritage of this home as you gather here with us to honor its historical significance to the Powell Community. It is our sincere privilege to now open this home to you, our guest. Bart, Cindy, Anna Grace and Sunny Day Elkins
