In 1917, as WWI raged in Europe, English-born Canadian composer - TopicsExpress

In 1917, as WWI raged in Europe, English-born Canadian composer Healey Willan wrote How They So Softly Rest for the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, based on the The Dead by American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow - itself a translation of a poem by a German - Wie sie so sanft ruhn, alle die Seligen by August Cornelius Stockmann. This Remembrance Day, as we remember the 60,000 Canadians and 1,600 from what was then the Dominion of Newfoundland who lost their lives in WWI, we also remember that war knows no boundaries.
