In 1959, the Dallas Rangers (nee Eagles) went to AAA ball (the old American Association) from AA ball (the Texas League, where they had been a powerhouse for several years in a row). The disastrous result was that they fell flat on their face for the next six years--their lifespan in AAA ball, four of them as the Dallas-Ft. Worth Rangers--before returning to the Texas League in 1965 and abandoning old Burnett Field for what then was known as Turnpike (later Arlington) Stadium as the D-FW Spurs. Even though the teams werent very good, if I could have LIVED at Burnett Field I would have. Thats when baseball really amounted to something. Nobody then could envision the mess it has turned into now, or ever have forseen a day ahead when ALL professional sports (and today, even some college ones) would turn from an American pastime into one of the biggest wastes of time.
