In 1966 when this picture was taken the Jubilee Theatre at Bluff in Central Queensland was owned by the well known and respected Tom Ohl and his family. Tom had been the exhibitor in that community for decades. I am told that he actual built the theatre from a disused World War II air craft hanger. In those days our forefathers did things the hard way. The Blackwater Drive-In Theatre some short distance from Bluff commenced screening in 1973. The advent of television and the establishment of Blackwater Drive-In Theatre sounded the death knell for the Jubilee Theatre. The developers of the Blackwater Drive-In Theatre knowing full well that the Jubilee Theatre days were numbered invited Tom to join them in the Blackwater enterprise. Tom turned down the offer as he felt that the time had come for him to retire from the industry. At the time he other business interests including a number of Retail Butcher Shops. He was also a long serving member of the Duaringa Shire Council.
