In 1975, Anthony Sullivan and Richard Adams heard about a county - TopicsExpress

In 1975, Anthony Sullivan and Richard Adams heard about a county clerk in Colorado who had issued a marriage license to two men. They hopped a flight to Boulder and got married. After the wedding, Adams filed a petition seeking permanent residency for Sullivan, an Australian citizen. The request was denied. Adams has since passed away, but this year, on what would have been their wedding anniversary, Sullivan asked L.A. immigration authorities to reopen the petition so he can be granted residency as the surviving spouse of a U.S. citizen. The effort is complicated by the fact that their marriage predates the Defense of Marriage Act.
