In 1975 a postal worker or small time contractor could buy a HOUSE - TopicsExpress

In 1975 a postal worker or small time contractor could buy a HOUSE in a working class neighborhood and send his or her kids to college, during a recession (with difficulty, admittedly, but it was more than conceivable - I had MANY working class friends from 2 child families who went to UCs in the early 80s). . If you think the difference is that there was more money in the US than there is now, this is in fact not true: the United States is FLUSH with cash, it is just vastly more in the hands of the top .01%. This is not because of changes in technology, or government spending, or overtaxation, or the internet, or immigrants, or foreign competition, it is because of carefully orchestrated legislation that started in the Reagan years, created BY and FOR the wealthy, and has continued through the Clinton years until today: to take what used to be collectively held wealth and put it in the hands of oligarchs. I do not mean to PREACH with this post, what you believe is your own business, just sharing some info for anybody interested. scalar.usc.edu/works/growing-apart-a-political-history-of-american-inequality/index
