In 1979 I witnessed from my bedroom window on Scotforth Road an act of political vandalism that was both genius and cunning. Two lads - and I know who - changed the letters in LABOUR PARTY and moved them around so it read A TORY PUB on the front of this building, the Lancaster Labour Party election HQ. Nowadays it would be all over social media, but it never even made the paper. I also saw Cllr Ian Barker arrive in the morning to survey the wreckage and take the letters down. I dont recall that they ever re-appeared as the L O and other R had gone. Anyway, good luck to Labour in my home town next year but watch out for a cheeky return from **** ******* and **** ********.
