In 1983, the glittery new 49th Street Galleria was a one-stop shop for entertainment in Murray. There was a roller rink, a bowling alley and an arcade, a mecca for fun in the 80s. After the original idea faded, the building was rebooted as the Utah Fun Dome and afterward was slated to become a site for Salt Lake Valley College before plans fell apart. Next, it was the Salt Lake Pavilion Hotel and Conference Center and the Utah Pet Center, before closing again in 2008. Now, the building will undergo one more rebirth, as the American International School of Utah. The school’s organizers are remodeling the building by demolishing the iconic towers, and are expecting to open this fall.
