In 1987 South African Flight 295 was a commercial flight tat suffered a catastrophic in-flight fire in the cargo area & crashed in2 the Indian Ocean east of Mauritius on 28 Nov 1987, killing every1 on board. An xtensiv salvage operation was mounted in order to try to recover the flight data recoders, 1 of whc was recoverd frm a depth of 4,900 metres (16,100 ft) the deepest successful salvage operation ever conducted.
