In #1990 #IceIceBaby by #VanillaIce became the first #rap record - TopicsExpress

In #1990 #IceIceBaby by #VanillaIce became the first #rap record to top the US singles chart & was certified Platinum. Topping the charts in Australia, Belgium, the Netherlands, New Zealand and the UK, the song helped diversify #HipHop by introducing it to a mainstream audience. Initially released as the B-side to the rappers cover of Play That Funky Music on his 1989 debut album #Hooked and later on his 1990 national debut #ToTheExtreme, it is his most well known song after DJs started playing the track. The song samples the bassline of #UnderPressure by #Queen and #DavidBowie, who did not initially receive songwriting credit or royalties until after it had become a hit. Following the songs success there was a rumour that #SugeKnight threatened to throw Vanilla Ice over a balcony over writing credit and royalties of the song (which Vanilla Ice has deemed untrue) but the dispute was settled in court and that money was used to fund the early years of #DeathRowRecords #TWIMH
