In 1992, a young man from a suburban background, Chris McCandless, who had tried to live alone in the Alaskan wilderness, starved to death only 30 miles from civilization. A book was written about his experience, called "Into the Wild," and a few years ago, Sean Penn directed a film about it, starring Emile Hirsch. New chemical testing on some wilderness plants has shed some additional light on how and why Chris McCandless died.
