In 1995, when I learned that I was having a daughter, I wanted a nursery of pink. But as a third child with two older brothers and parents on tight budget, my sweet daughter with a boy’s name got a makeshift nursery in the guest room complete with a futon. With the next move, the hodgepodge nursery traveled with us to a rental house. Finally, when she was 4, we moved into new home where I was able to create the girlie room I had always dreamt of. I LOVED putting it together. With the next move, Michael-Carson and I did her room together: Green, white and black with a fuchsia pink bathroom. What she wanted but with my input. Today I helped her unpack HER room: the dorm room she designed. It’s beautiful. It’s hers. It smells (kinda) like home, but it’s not at my house. I’m am all at once filled with pride AND sadness AND shock-and-awe AND things that I cannot articulate with words. Tears and swollen throat wouldn’t let me say them aloud even if I could. I am spellbound by her, her...well...all of her. I have no words for today. Michael-Carson Clement Michael Clement
