In 1996 I missed out on voting due to lack of interest despite turning 18 years the same year.I was staunch MMD then and a religious follower of FTJ.I remember then that Humphrey Mulemba of NP and Dean Mungomba ZADECO were the main opposition.Other minor parties were Guy Scotts Lima Party. In 2001 I voted for late Andy Mazoka UPND in Lusaka,2006 for late Micheal Sata PF in Kitwe,2008 Presidential bye-election my vote was for PF and finally 2011 I celebrated knowing my vote had helped to usher in a new government.I remember travelling to Kitwe to vote at my registration centre at parklands kitwe basic school.I returned to Lusaka the same day and was at my late sisters house in Kabulonga near Mikalile Hotel when results were announced at midnight.I remember me hugging my mulamu as we danced the night/morning away;two grown men dancing like teenagers. It was a joyous day to remember.Three years down the line, the prices of everything are beyond an average Zambians reach.Promises have not been met as pledged. Many youths are still unemployed;thousands of graduate certificates are rotting away in their respective storage places.Corruption is still the order of the day and prosecutions are selective.Hospital wards are full to capacity but have no beds and medicines.City councils are running out of burial sites as our people die of preventable deaths everyday due to lack of proper care and medicines as hospitals continue to be understaffed.Unplanned high density residential areas and compounds continue to thrive as cost of accommodation and lack of it are on the rise. The new constitution is still awaited.Public opinion has since turned on the once glorious PF.One thing about Zambians nowadays is that you cannot test their patience for too long. For how long can we Zambians await the long promised golden egg?.And now come 20th January 2015 I will be voting for the fifth time since multi party democracy and elections were introduced in 1991.HH and UPND have my vote.
