In 1997 when I did my first Haj, I visited a friends rented abode in Ajiad. I remember walking up a steep path to reach his place. Ajiad was then a slum where the poors lived. Water had to be carried manually by Pakistani porters who sold them to the dwellers. Now staying in a hotel beyond Ajiad I have to pass by it everyday. The slum is gone as the area will soon be developed into highrise property befitting its location directly behind Makkah Tower where the giant clock is. I captured a few photos of the backlane leading to the slum area which will be soon developed in due course.
