In 1999-2000, I had a grand plan in my head to be an advertising mogul - hehehe. I came up with a plan to put out advertising notice boards in every estate in Nairobi. The idea was simple, people would put up notices that are relevant to people within the estate. At the time i lived in Imara Daima! I spent the only money i had (about KES37,000) to make the notice board and had it running within 2 weeks. I would charge 100bob per a4 notice per week. I had the noticeboard fully booked for the next 2 weeks but same time, i couldnt pay rent and my landlord sent me auctioneers - some of my house items were taken away and auctioned. As this was happening, some malicious person pushed down my billboard breaking it. I had no money to make another. The Estate association begged me to make another but i simply couldnt afford. They made their own. If you visit Imara Daima today, you will find a notice board as you drive in- it was made to replace mine. That was one my lowest moments in life but i kept a smile that even my closest friends couldnt tell what was going on in me. Today, i still believe that there is an opportunity for such a business. I dont have time to do it but i would certainly invest in a young person wanting to do this. #ChaptersofmyLife - with God, never give up!.
