In 1999, my world changed forever. That was the year I heard the trio known as the Lyte Funky Ones. The group was aptly named—they were indeed lyte, “funky,” and there was more than one of them. And their lyrics? Sheer bloody poetry. (Just look at the excerpts from their song, “Summer Girls” below!) So yes, this is a tribute to hip-hop’s best lyricists—the lyte ones who inspired me to believe that maybe I, too, could write stuff. New Kids on the Block had a bunch of hits Chinese food makes me sick… I like girls that wear Abercrombie and Fitch… Youre the best girl that I ever did see The great Larry Bird, jersey 33 When you take a sip, you buzz like a hornet Billy Shakespeare wrote a whole bunch of sornets [sic]… Fell deep in love, but now we aint speakin Michael J.
