In 2002 a court convicted Trafficant of a number of charges and sentenced him to 8 years in prison. He was released on Sep 2, 2009. Traficant maintains that he was framed and persecuted by the federal government for telling the truth. Millions of dollars and over 250 federal agents were used in the investigation and prosecution of Traficant. The federal United States is bankrupt.
