In 2004, I interviewed for a job doing support work for a man with ALS. His mind was, of course, unaffected, but the only part of his body he could move was his eyes. To communicate, support staff would hold up a poster of the alphabet and drag their fingers along until he blinked twice, allowing him to spell out words and phrases. I cannot imagine living with ALS. I was nominated for the Ice Bucket Challenge by Shelley Bennett. I nominate Diane M. Bowering, Suzanne Gill, and Shane Staples.
