In 2005 I was on Welfare single mom with two kids barely living. God blessed me with an opportunity to get a job with Department of Transportation PHMSA. I was living in California and the job was in DC. I bought 3 plane tickets for 99 dollars. I took only clothes, my kids and my sister. When we got to the condo in MD we didnt even have blankets. My sister and I slept on the floor with our coats to cover us. I had maybe 100 bucks to last the 3 weeks till payday. My mom came and stayed for a few days. My mom bought us some Wendys one day and Chinese the next. We bought 10 dollar blankets from the dollar general. We ate oodles of Noodles for days. One of my coworkers Savanna MB heard about my situation and filled my entire frig and freezer. She got together with Jasmine Snoddy John Williams Ruby Thompson Angie Burrus Cheryl Grinston and others who furnished my entire apartment. I had nothing and with the love from strangers I had everything. Today, I am a Management and Program Analyst with the IRS. If it wasnt for their kindness I think I would have went back home, back to Welfare. I always want to pay it forward. My sister Niccy Williams thank you all. My experience in DC molded me into the woman I am today.
