In 2005 the supreme court ruled that an officers primary duty is to uphold the law. And they have no constitutional duty to protect citizens from harm. When Citizens are harmed, be it bystander, suspect - whatever, and those case make it into a courtroom, you have no legal standing. Thats why in Seattle a civilian oversight committee has been created, in Indiana laws passed that shooting a cop is legal if warranted, all sorts of State laws, to deal with this one issue; your constitutional safety. Was Mike Brown a threat? Who knows? What I do know, is if you dont want a riot, have the Victims family in the courtroom, not in the streets. Let them hear the evidence. Overreach cases are making their way through the system, none have a legal standing. Its a shame the news doesnt point this out- isnt it? Heres just one of many cases that led SCOTUS to such a ruling. nytimes/2005/06/28/politics/28scotus.html?_r=0
