In 2005, when Richard Black was serving in the Virginia House of Delegates, he made a speech in which he said he did not know how on earth you could validly get a conviction of a husband-wife rape, when theyre living together, sleeping in the same bed, shes in a nightie, and so forth, theres no injury, theres no separation or anything. Well, admittedly I dont know whether he continues believing this today, but lets look at this theory logically. A friend, who I respect a great deal, suggested that it followed logically that if she were to kill her husband in her kitchen it wouldnt be murder because they live together, share the same kitchen and are both wearing aprons. My response follows, and believe me, youre going to want to read the entire thing if youve bothered getting this far. She and I poke fun at one another, so please note that despite the fact I was calling her silly, I dont think shes silly in the least, at least not for saying what she said. Thats comparing apples to oranges. So youre just being silly. These representatives of the GOP really do believe it stands for Geriatric Order of Penises, and as such, they could never take a man wearing an apron, when not being paid to do so, seriously. The parallel you WANT to draw is this. So that means if I tie my husband face down on the bed, so long as I allow him to hold his head to facilitate breathing, then strap on a twelve inch semi rigid phallus analog, smeared in jalapeno jelly for his comfort, and forcibly violate his rectum, repeatedly, whether he bleeds or not, no matter how much hes insisting he is not interested in me taking my pleasure at his expense, that I cant be charged with rape because were living together, sleeping in the same bed, and hes wearing silk boxers, and so forth. See, that makes MUCH more sense. Thats something theyll actually understand. Yes, of course theyll say its a very different thing because a man isnt meant to be taken that way, but then again, a woman isnt meant to be taken AGAINST HER WILL either. But until you draw the corollary in a way that makes the male of the species feel week and virtually victimized (the way we feel virtually kicked in the scrotum when we see it at the theatre), theyll never get it. For any man wondering what it might feel like to have the roles reversed, Id strongly encourage you to watch Descent: imdb/title/tt0463027/ Fact, a spouse can be raped, thats real, it happens all the time. Fact, sometimes the spouse being raped is male, and it doesnt matter whether the assailant is bigger or stronger, power isnt always about physical size or strength; power is about power, and there are MANY forms of power. People need to stop thinking that once vows have been exchanged that someone in the relationship becomes demoted to a position of property and thus foregoes rights he would otherwise be presumed to have, in accordance with the U.S. Constitution and the spirit of the Declaration of Independence.
