In 2006, I went to my first Earthwork Harvest Gathering. The following Monday post-festival, I was in my senior year of classes.I tried to figure out how I could make time to prioritize music in my life. I tried to convince my International Trade Economics professor that I was going to drop the class to minimize my double major in Spanish & Intl Business Administration to a Spanish major/Business minor...he said no, as did my advisor; I cried; I got through it. What I didnt tell my econ prof is that I was drifitin away mid-class conceptualizing some Breathe Owl Breatheesque inspired lyrics about peanut butter and jelly. The path was set on course. Sometime two years AFTER graduating college (Im now 23 [in this monologue, Im actually 30]) - I decided Id try to make a go at making a living as a musician (against the suggestions of pretty much everybody I conveyed this to, save a few). That was about 6 1/2 years ago. I speculated itd take me a few years working part-time jobs to make ends meat, while gigging as much as possible, before I could make the move to be a full-time musician. Harvest Gathering 2006 changed my life in a way that I still cant really fathom, other than the fact that it had an affect on me that set me on course for my life, as is. Today. Last year was the first year I missed Harvest, as I was on tour with my bandmates, Lindsay Lou & the Flatbellys, who I now tour relentlessy, 170-200 days PER YEAR, down at International Bluegrass Music Associations conference. If you have never experienced the Earthwork Music Harvest Gathering, please consider coming this weekend! https://youtube/watch?v=vyNz2HLXLcI earthworkharvestgathering/tickets If you cant make it this weekend - thats legit. But consider coming next year. It is one of the most modern grassroots organizations of our times. AND, Ill be there. Playing music. Hangin. Volunteerin. Livin. Lovin - just like the goodle days. https://youtube/watch?v=Hfmr-Zn_nRI
