In 2007 Walid Raad initiated an art project on Islamic, modern, and contemporary art in the Arab world titled “Scratching on things I could disavow.” The artist wrote: “I present works that relate to my ongoing engagement with ‘Islamic Art’ and ‘Modern Arab Art’ - their objects, shapes, colors and lines; their institutions, discourses, stories and histories; their creators, sponsors, and viewers.” Raad’s installation “Scratching on things I could disavow: Prologue (Département des Arts de l’Islam _ Louvre)”, 2007-2014 is included in the exhibition “Rainbow in the Dark” at SALT Galata until the end of this week, January 18.
