In 2010, I was diagnosed with three herniated cervical discs. My Neurosurgeon suggested completing a three level fusion at one time. Granted, I believed he was competent and qualified, I opted for a single level cervical fusion. I asked that he fix the disc that was causing me all of the pain. He agreed, but said, "I know you will be back in 5-10 years for the other two discs. After the surgery and recovery the pain subsided for a short period of time. Just as the doctor predicted;I began having more pain and greater pain in 2011 because of the two remaining discs. It was to the point that I lost 90% use of my right arm. The pain was constant and so severe, that I was on Oxycontin and Percocet. By the way, the pain meds provided NO RELIEF!!! Because I had a relationship with the Neurosurgeon, he saw me on Wednesday and scheduled the the surgery for Friday of the same week!! I was thrilled because my quality of life was horrible. No one in their right senses wants to live medicated 24/7. The day of and immediately following the cervical fusion my doctor checked on me while I was in recovery and said, "Squeeze my hand." Keep in mind prior to surgery, my right hand was akin to a dead fish. Immediately following surgery I had full use of my arm and hand. As Christians we flee the very thought of allowing God to cut on us. We often prefer to hold on to the defected parts of us, because the process and pain associated with becoming perfected is unnerving. Had I not underwent surgery in 2010 and 2011, my right arm would be 100% useless!! People trust doctors more than they trust GOD!! Yes, it will hurt!! Yes, you will cry!! Yes, you will have to allow time for the incisions to heal!! BUT... the end result is a person that is WHOLE!! #donotavoidtheprocess
