In 2011, Squid was going to be dumped by her prior human, because the little boy in the household insisted on trying to ride her like a horse, and so Squid let the little boy know that she didnt like that - by growling. The human was worried that Squid would attack the little boy, so she decided to get rid of Squid. I knew that if Squid was dumped at the local shelter, she would get labeled as aggressive and not have a chance. So we adopted her. The human gave us all of Squids medical records and such, and I discovered that she had been purchased as a puppy from one of the local pet stores that notoriously got their stock from puppy mills. (The store is thankfully no longer in business.) She had kennel cough quite often as a youngster, and now has some breathing problems that we keep closely monitored. She is a mini and is going to be 8 years old this October. She loves butt scratches and belly rubs, and (contrary to the prior humans opinion) loves to be snuggled and cuddled. She used to be an apartment doggie, so here in our house with a nice backyard, she LOVES to roll around in the grass (after making sure its a spot that is clear of poops, of course). She has also taken over the guest bedroom, where she loves to lay on the bed and watch out the front window and bark at anyone that shouldnt be walking past the house ... on the other side of the street ... or driving by too slowly ... or at the neighbors getting in or out of their cars ... or a gazillion other terrible things that she protects us from.
