In 2012 four Italian police officers were convicted of manslaughter for their role in 18-year-old Federico Aldrovanis violent death. They were sentenced to three years and six months in prison. Six months later they were released due to a law designed to ease prison overcrowding. None of the officers has been fired and they returned to work, albeit in office-based roles, in February. Yesterday they were given a standing ovation by the Autonomous Union of Police (SAP).
