In Adamawa State, destiny is most kind to the dark horse in the race. The governorship race right from history is won not by those in the forefront or early risers. Barde was the David and Ahmadu Ribadu was the Goliath (in 1979). In 1991, Major Aminu gave everybody a run for their money but suddenly died and Saleh Michika surfaced from behind in his party to beat Ahmed Song. After the Atiku/Takaya contest (in 1999), it was Deputy Governor-elect Boni that was sworn in. In 2007, Nyako was literlly dragged in as a late choice to preferred aspirants in his party who had been in the arena for ages to defeat Bapetel, chosen over Bello Tukur who had been waiting in the wings as deputy governor. Up until May 2014, Abdul-Aziz was coasting in the ruling party. And today all eyes are on Yayaji Mijinyawa who is coming in from the cold. Fintiri up until July 2014 was the speaker of the state assembly nursing the hope of clinching a return ticket. Lo! Fintiri is his partys flagbearer dumping big wigs with long-held ambitions, money bags and towering Abuja puppets.
