In Chronic Pain and with chronic common painful medical conditions, the nervous system changes. The nerves become more sensitive to stimulus and the brain changes in its ability to be aware of that part of the body. Eventually, emotions, thoughts and anything from the outside that triggers the stress response can trigger the pain cycle which includes, shallow breath, muscle tension, muscle weakness and inflammation. In Yoga Therapy we are working with breath to create a parasympathetic response (relaxation response). This will create the right atmosphere for restoring movement and muscular balance and to decrease the sensitivity of the nervous system to stimulus.In other words, the Yoga Therapist actually helps you to change the patterned and conditioned experience of sensation.
