In England, though a specialist in history, I only lecture English Language and Literature. I elsewhere, I lectured at one college in London for years and could not fathom why the African children within the diaspora (London) struggled so much; so I decided to take a teaching job in a secondary school ..to my chagrin I noted the prejudice disguised as heads of faculties...low and behold I saw how the African children in the diaspora were disenfranchised very subtly. I would end up with the naughty children at my desk- the boys in particular were often given detentions just for breathing initially, then when they refused, they were given another, then sent into referral units and fell way behind their classmates of course they eventually would fulfil the stereotype set for them, so my desk was their salvation... (had a reputation of being strict and able to get them to be quiet.), so when I had these students at my desk...I would spend a lot of energy and time loving them up and teaching them their history. The result always was that those students who were placed at my desk in frustration by middle class teachers who cared not whether they could read or write at the end of five years, would achieve As, Bs or even Cs after being with me for a while....Their self esteem grew immensely when they were taught positives about their historical past. I decided to write a text set in modern times but went back to Antiquity to empower other students/young people/ people with an interest to have wider knowledge of a great people. Please share and encourage our youngsters to read. I wrote the text to reach both young men and women. A war tale for the males, a love story for the young ladies. So now I turn to doing workshops teaching English and History at every opportunity I get. I hope we can get youngsters to begin reading again and that our ancestors will be pleased. We ALL have to go back to the drawing board for our childrens sake... Please see below: https://facebook/photo.php?fbid=10152000197341681&set=a.162082586680.127608.652046680&type=1&theater
