In Ge 17:1, God referred to himself as Almighty God (El Shaddai). This name affirms His unmatched power & sovereignty. In v 2, God reminded the patriarch that it is “my covenant.” Human action wouldn’t make this covenant happen. For Abraham to realize God’s promised power, he would need to walk in God’s ways, repent of unbelief, & humbly trust the Lord. Abraham’s response was profound & humble. He fell on his face in worship & surrender (v 3). It was in this context that God reaffirmed His incredible promise. Abraham was to be the father of nations & kings, the starting point of an eternal covenant.
