In Health Workers Strike: Patients Abandoned In Margibi County The medical director at the only government referrer Hospital in Margibi County Dr. Collins Bowah has predicted massive death toll in Margibi County if Health Workers do not quit their strike action to return to the various health facilities in the county. Dr. Bowah made the prediction Tuesday, July 23, when health workers on strike continued their strike action despite the ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the Health Association dialogue meeting on Monday, July 22, to resolve issues reportedly surrounding their individual plights. The C.H. Rennie Medical Director explained that emergency and referrer cases from clinics and health centers across the county are transported to the only government run hospital in the county by the Medical Ambulance; and if the health facilities are deserted by nurses and health workers, those referrers will not be made owing to long distances from different parts of the county to the C. H. Rennie Hospital. Reporters touring the compounds of the C.H. Rennie Hospital Tuesday, July 23, observed that nurses at the only Government referral hospital in Margibi County were said to be off their job as some patients on critical condition remained unattended to or abandoned. The reporters also discovered that three patents were abandoned in critical situation while seeking urgent medical attention. The family members of the abandoned patients expressed serious disappointment over the behavior of the health workers to stay away from a profession they took oath to defend in good or difficult times. Expressing disappointment, Madam Esther Mulbah the wife of one of the patents said they (patients including her husband) had been at the hospital for the last two days without treatment. Madam Mulbeh informed news men that they had since been asked by the hospital’s administrators to “leave”, but they were still at the facility due to “stubbornness” as some of them came from far distances to kakata to seek medical treatment. To the contrary, the medical Director of the C.H. Rennie Hospital, Dr. Collins Bowah says amidst the health workers strike action, Doctors at the hospital are working and paying attention only to critical patients and surgical procedures. Meanwhile, the C. H. Rennie Hospital Medical Director is calling on national government to see the need to urgently resolve the health workers grievances so as to avoid serious health calamity. The hospital, according to confirmed sources, is the only government referrer Hospital in Margibi County. It is seriously facing over -crowdedness and caters to referrals from Bong, Grand Bassa, and Margibi counties.
