In India, we make a football out of honest and upright bureaucrats. And the lazy among them, in turn, play football with the decision making. Aam Aadmi feels like a football in the government offices. Urgent issues of public interest are kicked about like a political football by the rival parties. And, we the people, since 1947, seem to have been practicing to perfection what in footballing parlance is known as self-goal. Evidently, football itself exists in India more as a metaphor than a game. Except, when the World Cup is on. Here is, for my fellow buffs, from my professional peers, something to behold. Can you imagine a more spectacular kick-off? Irrespective of the fact that it is brought to you by the worlds largest peddler of junk food.
