In Jesus’ ministry, he recruited the help of common - TopicsExpress

In Jesus’ ministry, he recruited the help of common people…normal people; broken people that society might overlook. Think about this…In today’s world, most churches would even consider Jesus as their Senior Pastor. The church board might say, “He’s only 33, only 3 years experience, he’s not married and has no education…Jesus, come back and apply when you get out of seminary, get married and have more experience.” Speaking of education, I was in Van Buren, Mo a few years ago. While there I decided to stop by this little restaurant to eat. The young girl behind the counter took my money and handed me my bag of food. As I turned to leave, I stopped and asked, “Is there napkins in the bag?” She responded, “Yes, there IS…and it should be ‘ARE there napkins in the bag?’ sir.” I thought, “Huh? What just happened? I just got schooled, by a school girl!” Her comment was a bit crass, but it was a bold thing to do. She wasn’t showing off, she was fixing me….helping me. It had been 18 years since I had a formal education. I’ve slacked in many areas. You know, in the spiritual world, I sometimes find myself “coasting”…I’ve “slacked a bit”. Maybe you have too. Listen, Jesus didn’t die on the cross so we could sit on our couch. He is looking for ordinary people that display extraordinary faith. When that voice in your head says, “I’m not qualified enough…I’m not talented enough. I will let someone else spread the Good News. I’ll just stay here on my couch.” tell that voice, “hit the road, God specializes in people like me!” God needs ordinary ole you...now more than ever.
