In July, the Abbott Liberal Government shut Australian shipbuilders out of the tender process for the construction of two new naval supply ships. They claimed that Australian builders, like Newcastles Forgacs, didnt have the capacity to build these ships. Forgacs submission to a Senate Inquiry investigating the decision has revealed that this is simply untrue and the capacity does exist in Australia. In fact, Forgacs offered multiple options as to how they could contribute to the build. Rather than mischievously misleading the public and sending jobs offshore, Tony Abbott should get behind Australias shipbuilding industry and support local jobs and companies.
