In July when my kids Ingrid and Vegard were here in Texas, we drove through San Marcos between Austin and San Antonio when I saw a sign and hit the brakes. It was a drawing of a Tucker (Torpedo 1948) and with a text saying “…museum”. We found the place but it was closed. I have been wondering since then if it could be so that they really had a Tucker there. I went back to check, and YES!!! here it is, serial number 1050, the last of the 50 Torpedoes Preston T. Tucker completed before the “big guys” managed to stop him. He was way ahead of his time. Tucker is an important part of American automotive history. A really amazing guy with a dream and the capacity to realize his dream. Sad ending though. I love his direct approach to solving problems. He needed a hole in the wall for his radio antenna, so he took out his gun and - BANG – problem solved. Gotta love this guy! These pictures are taken at a museum in San Marcos. The story behind the Tucker is about much more than the car itself. And btw – I highly recommend Dick’s classic garage in San Marcos!
